Ok, so maybe we didn't stay home the whole time...... one little adventure/flight...... To here.

First stop: the beautiful Adelaide Temple.
The world is small place because who do we run into there? Friends that had recently moved from Darwin to Adelaide. Which turned into an afternoon of bird watching and delicious Indian food for dinner.

K - home of kangaroos, the small Tammar wallabys (incredibly CUTE!!) and koalas.

Vivonne Bay Lodge
N - National and Conservation parks cover more than one third of the total area of land on the Island. We visited Seal Bay Conservation Park and Flinders Chase NP, which includes Remarkable Rocks, and Admirals Arch. (keep reading) Also home to Cape du Couedic lighthouse
which sits on the southern side of the island, on the edge of the Southern Sea. Nothing but a lot of cold water between it and Antarctica!
G - our tour was mostly Germans, with some Swiss, Austrian, British, Canadian, Dutch, and one Venezuelan. An interesting group! We had fun getting to know each other for 2 days.
A - always helpful Roy cooking lunch with our great driver/tour director.
R - Remarkable Rocks. (honest, that is the name and they truly are
remarkable! )
O - Ostrich? No.... wrong continent. It's an Emu. Her name is Psycho and she lives at the Emu Ridge farm where we learned everything there is to know about making Eucalyptus oil and the 1001 uses of said oil.
O - Beautiful Ocean beaches
I - In the water. Alex had his own adventure before we met up in Adelaide that I am hoping I can persuade him to write a Post about. Here is a hint of what he did and his company.
YES!! THAT IS A GREAT WHITE SHARK!!! YIKES!
S - we learned how to shear a sheep. or at least watched a demonstration by Rob and his helpful dogs.
L - Land Ho! We had to take a large catamaran ferry from Cape Jarvis off the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Kingscote on Kangaroo Island. Thankfully it was only an hour ride and the water was very calm. We hear making the same crossing in the winter is not for those prone to sea sickness. like me. And Alex. Roy on the other hand, has a cast iron stomach.

D - Dune sliding - very fun!
Letme tell ya, it was hard work climbing those huge dunes with our boards! At least for this old girl. Lol. We were very proud of ourselves for not tipping over and eating a lot of sand. Roy wisely opted to stay at the bottom and be the photographer.
Of course Roy and his binoculars were inseparable; 11 new bird species for the trip. Happy guy.

It is a beautiful place. The island is much bigger than I had thought: 93 miles long and between 35 to 54 miles wide - around 1700 sq miles. We were surprised to learn 4400 people live on the island who have farmed or fished there for several generations.
