Meet a new Lifeguard! Alex took 3 Royal Queensland LifeSaving classes last month and got a part-time job at a local pool just over the hill from our house. It's been an exciting last couple of weeks as Alex was accepted to BYU Hawaii and BYU Idaho for this coming Fall semester. Needless to say, he's pretty excited and believe it or not is leaning towards Idaho. Now to just finish up those online High School classes....... He's also started attending Institute classes to finish up his Seminary credits. Busy boy! 
Roy was sustained as the Brisbane Australia North Stake Stake Sunday School President today. It was a bigger surprise to us! He'll do such a great job! It'll be fun to visit the 7 different Wards in the Stake.
In case you've heard or seen on the News about the massive flooding in Queensland; that is several hours north of us here in Brisbane. We could sure use some rain but not that much! With all that rain, we didn't have one drop here :( Or maybe you've heard about the horrible brush fires south near Melbourne -that is quite a distance from us also - similar to the distance between Washington DC and New Orleans. Their temperatures have been so incredible - 115*F! A nightmare!
Roy and I took another Saturday drive to the northeast to Canondale National Park and saw some beautiful eucalyptus forest and rainforest. Met the nicest people in small cafes and miniature towns. Almost looks like the foothills of Northern Calif. doesn't it? Except those are eucalyptus trees and not oak.
Heard hundreds of "bellbirds" in this drier Euc forest -their call is like the tinkling of small bells. Very fun to be driving through this beautiful forest and hearing dozens of bells ringing. But hard to see the little buggers! We saw two different kinds of monitor lizards, one about 3 feet long. Unfortunately it didn't come through on the pictures, but the bark on those bigger trees is a cinnamon color.
In the Park there was a large section of tropical type rainforest.
This is a retired fire tower near the town of Jimna. My dad's first job was on a tower like this - in fact, he spent his honeymoon there! It was great to see one of those here.

that's because I "borrowed" them from Wikipedia! I tell ya! those little birds were fast! so was the "goanna" (lizard) - no time to grab the camera.
