On the weekend of July 26th & 27th we were out and about!
On Sat. we attended our first horse race ever at the local Doomben racecourse in a suburb called Ascot, no less! It was an exciting afternoon although we quickly discovered we were sadly
under dressed and the one and only horse we bet on ($2) scratched at the last minute in the 7th race! Gamblers we are
not; it was some type of a fundraiser. A little trivia fact: horse over here at least at this track, run around clockwise, whereas horses in the US run counterclockwise. You never know, that might be the final Jeopardy question someday! The next day we participated in National Tree Planting Day, along with many other Bechtel employees and volunteers; we planted trees, shrubs and wetland plants to help restore a washed out creek bank at a local park.

Maybe they run clockwise as water drains opposite from northern hemisphere rotations. maybe it feels natural for the animals to match the harmony of nature. Do they race automobiles in the same rotation? Formula 1 races in Australia I remember. Olympic races were counterclockwise so maybe it's only horses that want to go backwards. who knows? Roland
