Tangalooma

This last Fri. & Sat. we took a boat east across Moreton Bay to Moreton Island to the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. Moreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world, FYI. The Woodward travel curse is alive and well here in the Southern Hemisphere, in case you were wondering. ugh! Although the weather has been great for the last 2 weeks, a storm blew in the day we left; the wind was blowing hard and it rained buckets just as we took off for our quad ride tour! (you can barely see my quickly improvised plastic rain poncho!) Thankfully it was a quick downpour. Of course the wind died and the skies were blue just as we were boarding the boat to leave on Sat. Regardless; we had a great time! We've learned over the many years traveling with "the curse" not to let it slow us down if at all possible. For several years the resort has been feeding wild dolphins at dusk; the dolphins have learned to show up for the free hand-out. The resort never knows how many will appear but apparently they're pretty consistent. Eight showed up for us, it was an amazing experience. Man, they have a lot of teeth up close! I fed Tinkerbell; a new Mum with a cute little 3 week old baby who doesn't have name yet; he/she was zipping all around us, a great little swimmer already. Unfortunately since it was dusk, no pictures. sorry. Alex swears this is the only time he's going into the ocean when it's dark while he's here in Auz. The next day we took a large boat, thank goodness, considering the choppy seas, around to the Pacific side of the island to see the migrating humpback whales. They are headed south to spend the summer feeding near Antarctica. We were lucky to see 3. Unfortunately Alex and I were slightly seasick so it wasn't quite as enjoyable as it should or could have been. Thank goodness Roy has a iron constitution, so he took these pictures.
